Michael James’ career spans over thirty-five years in the architecture/interior architecture fields. He has been very successful in building and developing Interior Architecture firms into industry leading, client oriented, highly profitable, cohesively operated and award winning professional design firms. Goals were achieved through creative direction of corporate strategy and niche marketing, while developing individual professional talent in a multi-disciplined team approach.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Architecture from Arizona State University in 1970, and graduate studies in Design Firm Management Marketing and Finance from Harvard and ASU, he worked for several leading architectural firms in Phoenix. He then joined Peter A. Lendrum Associates in 1978, and developed a multi-disciplined Interior Architecture/Graphics division that ranked nationally in the Top 100, returning 20% profits with an 85% client return rate. He simultaneously directed offices in Phoenix, San Diego and Newport Beach. His group designed between 750K-1.0 million sq. ft. annually.
In 1984, James founded Phoenix Design One, again consistently ranking in the top 100 Interior Design firms. Project clients were Fortune 500 corporations, major regional public utilities, national/regional banking institutions, leading legal firms, professional corporations, institutional, healthcare providers and the aviation industry.
For the last several years, James formed his own architectural/design consulting firm servicing airports, large public/private commercial entities, architects, retail companies, construction managers and end users for national and regional entities.
James joined Schick Design Group in 2008, with the goal of using his interior architecture, technical and business management skills to help strengthen the talent and depth of the Schick Design Group as it continues its growth in the interior architecture and hospitality design industries, to increase our value added services to our clients.
